Russell Zuma: A Musical Journey
Nkosikhona Russell Zuma, better known as Russell Zuma, hails from Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. His musical journey began as a backup singer for Lucky Mngadi (of Lucky & Friends Gospel Choir). However, his passion for music led him to further his knowledge at Bet Centre, where he honed his vocal skills under the guidance of Xolisa Dlamini and Sfaniso Bophela.
Early Collaborations and Breakthroughs
• House Music Introduction: Russell’s childhood friend and business partner, Mzamo (Mzet) Ndaba, introduced him to house music. Together, they created the track “Inkomo,” catching the attention of DJ Bongz.
• Groove Jam: Russell collaborated with Gugulethu Ngxabi (Gifford) and Mapheelle Mongali (Suppressor) to form the band “Groove Jam.”
• Notable Collaborations: He worked with Spin Worx, Brewed Souls, and legendary DJ Kabila. His feature on the hit song “Healer Ntliziyo Yami” alongside George Lesley and Gaba Cannal solidified his presence in the industry.
Solo Projects and Next Level
• Debut Single: George Lesley produced and released Russell’s debut single, “Ishumi Leminyaka.”
• Current Success: Russell’s solo project, NEXT LEVEL, showcases his versatility. Produced by George Lesley, it features collaborations with Kabza De Small, COCO SA, Murumba Pitch, and Artwork Sounds.
